THE NATIONAL HORSEMAN is your only source you need for the latest news and events in the saddlebred market. Choose a story or event and click to read the story. To submit your story or event for published consideration, email:traffic@tnh1865.com Since the weather is not conducive to outdoor equestrian activities, winter is often the time for equine organizations to conduct annual meetings, plan for the coming year, and elect officers. Associations of all breeds and disciplines look to horsemen and women to step into leadership roles by serving as directors and officers. Some elected directors have prior leadership experience while others do not. In an attempt to assuage the challenges of breaking in new leaders the Kentucky Horse Council (KHC) is offering online training for new board members and equine association officers. On March 22, 2010 the first webinar of a two part series will be held from 7-8 p.m. EST. Equine Association Leadership will be conducted by KHC Vice President and former President of the Northern Kentucky Horse Network, Anna Zinkhon. In the course of the one hour presentation Zinkhon discusses successful strategies for meeting management, working effectively with committees, engaging members, and succession planning. The second training, Getting Your Message Out to the World: A Press Release Writing Webinar is scheduled March 29, 2010 from 7-8 p.m. EST. This webinar covers how to lay out and design press releases and how to develop strategies for effective releases. Common mistakes and pitfalls are identified, and alternative methods recommended by presenter Essie Rogers, KHC Director of Education and Welfare. A discussion of resources and media relations is also included. “Transitioning new board members and officers into leadership positions can be overwhelming,” reflected Madelyn Millard, KHC Board President. “Providing tools and advice to ease that process is a great service to the Kentucky equine community and the Kentucky Horse Council is uniquely qualified to give that support.” Both webinars are FREE to KHC members and board members of KHC Member Associations, $10 all others. Advance Registration is required. Register by contacting Essie Rogers at erogers@kentuckyhorse.org or 859-367-0509.
