Mildred Hudgins Passes Away

Avid horse-lover and supporter of her riding family, Mildred Hudgins, 82, passed away unexpectedly on the way to the hospital after suffering a heart attack on March 10, 2009 at her home in Nashville. Born and raised in Nasheville, Tennessee, Mildred was an avid Saddlebred fan and attended every horse show she could possibly go to. Although not a rider herself, she loved to support her daughter, Jeana Hein and her granddaughters, Amy and Holly Hein. Mildred thoroughly enjoyed watching all of the classes at horse shows. “She had to see the first horse come into the ring and the last horse leave,” says her daughter Jeana. “She really had a lot of friends on the horse show circuit.” Jeana adds that it is difficult to come to Pro-Am without her as it was one of her favorite shows. But she says that Mildred is in their hearts and with them at the show in spirit.

Mildred and her late husband, T. Herschel Hudgins were the founders of Leigh-Land Stables in Nashville, which is still going strong and now undergoing a transition into the a retirement facility for show horses under the direction of the Hein family.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, T. Herschel Hudgins, and her two brothers. She was buried next to her husband in Nasheville, Tennessee. Other survivors include daughters, Jeana Hein and DeLois Pierce, son Howard Hudgins, Jeana’s husband, Dan, and granddaughters Holly and Amy Hein. Mildred had six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and was a member of the Western Hills Church of Christ in Nashville for over 50 years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to a charity of their choice. Please forward condolences to the Hein family residence at 8384 River Road, Nashville, TN, 37209.
